Minnesota Parents Could Soon Access Additional Scholarship Funds for K-12 Education Options With New School Choice Legislation

Minnesota delegation and school choice advocates show support for the Educational Choice for Children Act (ECCA) that could empower Minnesota parents to choose the best school for their children

Last month, the Invest in Education Foundation, an organization that educates the public and policymakers about school choice, held their “Empowering Parents” event in Minneapolis, Minnesota alongside local school choice advocates and students to discuss new federal school choice legislation that could provide Minnesota parents with thousands of dollars in additional funding for K-12 education including private schooling or tutoring services in addition to Minnesota’s state school choice programs.

The Educational Choice for Children Act (ECCA) is a federal tax credit scholarship bill that would help as many as two million students access a school or education service of their parents’ choice. Scholarships are funded with private donations, not federal money, and donors receive a federal tax credit. Students could use scholarships for tuition, tutoring to address learning loss, special needs services, or education technology.

What Minnesota’s congressional delegation is saying:

“Empowering families with the freedom to choose the best educational path for their children is essential to our nation’s future,” said Congressman Tom Emmer (R-MN-06). “I support the Educational Choice for Children Act because it expands educational opportunities, ensuring every child has access to quality education tailored to their unique needs.”

Anthony J. de Nicola, Chairman of the Board at Invest in Education Foundation: “The ECCA is legislation that would make a substantial impact on education access for students across the country. Increasing school choice access is the next step to empowering parents across the country and providing children with the opportunity to learn in the environment that best suits them, regardless of their zip code. I am thankful for the incredible champions that are right here in Minnesota fighting for that every day.”
